Happy Professors Series: Changing Student Perspectives about Writing
It’s been a long time since I included a post for the Happy Professors series here on the blog, but recently, college professor, published author, and vlogger, Deb Kabwang, sent me a quote about why she loves teaching writing classes- and the timing couldn’t have been better!
As I’m wrapping up the final edits on my own book, Happy Professor’s Guide to Working at Home (which also includes a short interview with Deb about her experiences teaching online college classes from home- you can find her on Instagram and check out her book Chasing Freedom on Amazon.com!), I’ve been thinking a lot about my love for writing, and realizing that my favorite college classes were creative writing classes.
Needless to say, Deb’s word resonated with me:
“What I love most about being a professor is the ability to affect students’ lives and the way they see the craft of writing. Oftentimes students see writing as a boring or difficult task, when really, it is freeing.”
I love that.
Sometimes it can seem tedious, overwhelming, or even intimidating to put your thoughts on paper- not just for students, but for writers as well! However, there is also something very freeing about finding your voice through writing.
Happy teaching, learning, and writing!
